The benefit of wheel spacers is simple, by increasing the track of the vehicle you improve the handling and turn in and that is without mentioning the vastly improved stance.
Generally most 3mm, 5mm or 8mm wheel spacers are flat as they leave enough hub protruding for wheel centering. Usually anything over that size will have the hubcentric ‘nose’ on the spacer for wheel centering.
